Privacy Policy
What personal data Business Tax Calc collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. The short version: we collect very little.
In short
- You don't need an account, and the calculators don't ask for your name or email.
- Calculations run in your browser. The figures you type aren't sent to us unless you share a result link.
- We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, and only set analytics cookies if you agree.
- We never sell your data.
Who we are
Business Tax Calc (businesstaxcalc.co.uk) is run by Syed Aqeeq Abbas, trading as Business Tax Calc. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Syed Aqeeq Abbas is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at [email protected].
What we collect and why
Figures you enter in the calculators
The calculators work out your results in your own browser, so the figures you type, such as profit, dividends and dates, aren't sent to our server. The PDF download is created in your browser too.
There are two exceptions. If you use Copy link, your figures are written into the web address so the result can be reopened. When anyone opens that link, the figures reach our server as part of the address and may appear in our server logs. Anyone you send the link to can also see them. And if you save scenarios on the corporation tax calculator, they're kept in your browser's local storage on your device. They're never sent to us, and you can delete them with Clear all or by clearing your browser data.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our server records basic details of each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, your browser and device type, and the page that linked to us. We use these to keep the site secure, stop abuse and fix errors. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests. Logs are normally deleted within 30 days.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and, if you've reported a calculation error, to fix it. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests. We keep emails for up to 24 months and then delete them, unless we need them longer to deal with a continuing issue.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use the site: which pages and calculators are used, which features (such as the PDF download) are popular, and which device and rough location (country or city) visitors come from. It doesn't tell us who you are, and we don't send it the figures you type into the calculators. Analytics cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) are only set if you choose Accept. If you don't, Google receives limited information without cookies, which can't be used to recognise you on another visit. Our lawful basis is your consent. Google keeps analytics data for 14 months. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
Cookies and similar technologies
We only set Google Analytics cookies if you agree to them. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so we don't ask again on every page. Cloudflare, which protects the site, may set a strictly necessary security cookie (for example __cf_bm) to tell people from bots. That cookie doesn't need consent and isn't used to track you. We don't use advertising cookies.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of service providers, who process personal data only on our instructions:
- Contabo, which hosts the website server and its logs
- Cloudflare, which protects and speeds up the site and forwards emails sent to our address
- Google, which hosts the inbox where those emails arrive, provides Google Analytics
We don't sell, rent or trade personal data, and we only disclose it to others if the law requires us to.
International transfers
Business Tax Calc is run from Pakistan, and some of our providers process data in other countries, including the United States. Where personal data leaves the UK, we rely on our providers' standard data protection clauses or other safeguards recognised under UK law. We keep the data involved to a minimum: mainly server logs and the emails you choose to send us.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct it if it's wrong
- ask us to delete it
- object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it
- ask for it in a portable format, where that applies
To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (opens in new tab), though we'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
The site is for businesses and their advisers and isn't aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted here.
